A Birthday Dinner To Remember, His Choice

Updated: August 27, 2015

So I asked my son who just turned 11, what would you like to eat for your Birthday Dinner/Party?  I heard exactly what I thought I would hear. But before I tell you what he said, I figure I should give you some back ground.

My mother would always cook what every I wanted for my birthday, or we would go out to eat.  I have not always been able to do the go out to eat thing with my kids, but I have always done a family party and let him invite some friends and I have always prepared what they asked me for.

In the past we have made Sub sandwiches , home-made pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers, and even taco’s and taco Pie.  So, when I sat down at the dinner table and asked him what he would like me to make, I was told by him he wants those mini hot dogs wrapped up in pastry.   Some call them pigs in a blanket.  It really does not matter to me what we call them, I will be making them.

I will also say, that can not be the only thing I make.  There will be about 20 people here at the house 6 of which will be kids, so mostly adults.

When I spoke to him initially, I asked him about spaghetti with meatballs and sausage, Salad, Fried Chicken, with fresh Italian bread to go with it.   This is a package that a catering friend of mine puts together for 20 for a really inexpensive price.   So when I asked him, he said…”you know Dad, that sounds good, but I really want those hotdogs.”

So, I have decided to do that same menu, but my own instead of having it catered.   I am pretty sure I can save some money, and still pull it off.   Though it will be close as the deal is really good.  So, as whole, this will be my menu for the night.

Pigs in a blanket
Ziti with Meatballs and Sausage
Fresh Bread

Beer for the adults

Now that I have that solved, I will take some pictures along the way and update this as we go. I have two days to prepare….so this should be fun.  Please don’t hesitate to comment on my thoughts. The Party is not until Saturday, I would love to hear your thoughts.
